European Cardiovascular Developments

The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) has the stated aim of reducing the burden of cardiovascular in Europe.

Education and research are central supports towards developing that aim.  Since 1980 the European Heart Journal has become the platform which promotes the cardiovascular features of recognising the urgent need to develop healthier lifestyles.

Other branches of cardiology have emerged, such as heart failure and the
European Journal of Heart Failure began in 1999, to present and share the literature within that subspecialty.

More recently with the further recognition of lifestyle impacts, preventive cardiology has taken centre stage within cardiovascular literature. The European Journal of Preventive Cardiology represents current research work and this title has increased in frequency over the past ten years to a bi-monthly basis.

Over 500 papers are submitted annually, to the editors for inclusion, within this high impact title.

The School of Medicine at NUI Galway under the guidance of Dr. Gerard Flaherty has responded to the needs of preventive medicine, through providing a postgraduate course in preventive cardiology.
